As their name implies, bed bugs are often found in or around beds and bedrooms and signs of their presence are easy enough to identify. They are notoriously difficult to locate due to their skill at hiding, and made even more challenging by their fast maturity rate and longer life span. Identifying the origin and scope of an infestation requires more detailed inquiry.

INSPECTION & CONSULTATION

While inspecting your home, our technician will ask detailed questions to better ascertain where, when, and how bed bugs came to be in your home. Once we are able to identify the location and scope of the infestation, we can provide options for management.

We offer a wide array of bed bug treatments, including thermal remediation, chemical treatments, and a hybrid of chemical and heat. There are situations where certain treatments will be more effective or more appropriate than others. As our technician discusses their findings, they will also go over which treatment would be most effective for your home.

YOUR COMPREHENSIVE BED-BUG SOLUTION IS SLEEPTIGHT™!

At Sentinel Pest Control, our job is to ensure that your home is free of pests year-round—our comprehensive service packages are designed to do just that! Tailor-made to meet the needs of Western Washington residents and businesses, our pest control service packages will both remove pest infestations and prevent future ones.

Thermal Remediation Bed Bug Treatment

Thermal remediation uses heat technology to kill bed bugs and their eggs without harming the environment. It is a non-chemical, non-toxic approach that applies heat evenly throughout a structure to kill bed bugs wherever they are hiding.

Heat treatments can be extremely effective with only one treatment, often eliminating the need for follow-up treatments. If thermal remediation is chosen, your inspector will provide you with a prep sheet outlining what you need to do to prepare your home and family prior to the treatment.

Prior to treatment, your technician will walk your home with you to ensure that the necessary prep work has been done correctly, and that all heat sensitive items have been removed. People, plants, and pets are not allowed to be present during the treatment. Re-entry is allowed as soon as the treatment has been completed.

During the process, heaters, heat ducting, and fans are brought into your home. The interior of your home is heated to a temperature of no less than 135 degrees and kept at that temperature for approximately 5 hours.

Temperatures are monitored regularly, and readings are taken in various locations throughout the treatment. During the heating process, items may be moved to facilitate proper air flow, ensuring temperatures remain consistent throughout the home.

If present, sprinkler heads will be covered in order to prevent them from going off during the treatment. Heads with a rating of above 155 degrees use cool gel, Reflectix, and faucet covers. Heads with a rating below 155 degrees use dry ice and thermos covers to keep temperatures down.

Pros:

  • Highly effective with minimal prep work for the customer

  • Non-toxic (no chemical usage)

  • Eggs are killed immediately

Cons:

  • Customer must vacate the home during the 8 hour treatment

  • Higher cost than a purely chemical treatment

Chemical Bed Bug Treatment

Our proprietary chemical treatment utilizes a combination of chemicals to effectively kill all bed bugs infesting your home. As with our thermal remediation service, your technician will give you a prep sheet prior to the treatment, detailing all steps necessary to prepare for the application. Your service technician will also go over the steps with you verbally.

Our chemical treatment is applied in two phases. In the initial phase, our technician uses multiple types of chemicals throughout the home to kill and flush out all bed bugs. Mechanical controls are also implemented at this time, mattress covers are installed, and bedding/clothing must be laundered by the homeowner.

In the second phase, an interior spot treatment is applied approximately two weeks after the initial application. During this phase, we use a different residual chemical than was used on the initial treatment. Many bed bugs have developed a resistance to certain pesticides; as such, the second treatment application is done as a means of eliminating any remaining bed bugs that may have survived as a result of a chemical resistance.

Pros:

  • Highly effective

  • Least expensive of the three options

Cons:

  • Lots of prep work for the customer

  • Most chemical usage

  • Eggs are not killed until the hatched larvae contacts the residual product

Hybrid Thermal/Chemical Bed Bug Treatment

Our last treatment option is a hybrid that combines thermal remediation with a chemical treatment. This process is completely proprietary and unique to Sentinel Pest Control.

With this process, the home is heated up the same as is done with the thermal remediation treatment. After the thermal remediation has been completed, we then apply a residual chemical treatment inside the walls and around the baseboards of your home. The theory behind this hybrid approach is that any bed bugs that escaped during the thermal remediation treatment will be killed by the subsequent chemical application.

Pros:

  • Highest level of efficacy

  • Modest level of preparation

  • Only one treatment necessary

  • Eggs killed during treatment

  • Minimal amount of chemical usage

Cons:

  • More expensive than a chemical-only treatment

  • Customer must vacate the home during the 8 hour treatment
