Treating an ant infestation is a fairly complicated process. Our ant treatment involves a significant amount of detective work, specialized interior baiting, and liquid chemical treatments, as well as an exterior chemical application to the home or building and various areas on the property.

INSPECTION & CONSULTATION

When dealing with a potential ant infestation, the primary focus of our initial inspection is identification. During the inspection, our technician will do the following:

  • Identify the Species – Identifying the species of ant is critical in determining the best course of action regarding treatment. Common ants to the Pacific Northwest include odorous house ants, carpenter ants, pavement ants, moisture ants and thatching ants.

  • Identify the Location of Activity – We want to make sure that the chemical treatment is heavily focused on areas of high activity in order to deter future infestations.

  • Locate the Nest – Locating a nest site is ideal for a treatment, but not necessary. Our technicians will make every attempt to locate nesting sites in and around the property. If a nest is found, a chemical application will be made directly to the site.

  • Identify Food Sources – Finding food sources allows us to better tailor our treatment plan to your specific home or business. Oftentimes, locating and eliminating food sources allows us to drive infesting ants to our baits or through our liquid chemical applications.

  • Determine Conducive Conditions – There are numerous conducive conditions that can lead to or directly cause an ant infestation. For example, moisture problems, earth to wood contact, vegetation growing on or against the structure, and poor sanitation can all be problematic and facilitate ant infestations. Identifying contributing factors to the conducive conditions allows us to help our customers identify ways to prevent or mitigate future infestations.

Once we have completed our inspection, we will be able to determine how best to deal with the infestation and where to most effectively apply our treatment.

YOUR COMPREHENSIVE ANT SOLUTION IS SAFEHOME™!

At Sentinel Pest Control, our job is to ensure that your home is free of pests year-round—our comprehensive service packages are designed to do just that! Tailor-made to meet the needs of Western Washington residents and businesses, our pest control service packages will both remove pest infestations and prevent future ones.

Our SafeHome™ Program is designed to control and prevent the presence of common pests. Through regular inspections, treatments, application of preventative measures, and collaboration with our customers, we are able to develop a comprehensive plan to control any existing pest issue.

  • 1. Perimeter Treatment – A 360 Degree band of residual insecticide is applied around the home on the foundation that is approximately 2 feet wide.

  • 2. Walkways, Fence Lines, Patios, and Driveways Treatment – Areas where ants typically travel and frequently nest on the exterior of the home are treated.

  • 3. Crawl Space Treatment – The foundation sill plate, pier posts, and areas where plumbing enters the home are treated with a residual insecticide to ensure maximum protection.

  • 4. Interior Crack and Crevice treatment – Cracks and crevices on the interior of the building where ant activity is noted are treated with a residual non-repellent insecticide.

  • 5. Interior Baiting – Protein or sugar-based baits are applied on the interior of the building where ant activity is noted. Different times of the year call for different baits.

Bed bugs can be a major nuisance. Due to their quick maturity rate, longer lifespan, and skill for hiding, they can be especially difficult to treat.

Interior Treatment

  • Interior treatments can include baiting and/or liquid sprays depending on the species of ant. Some species, like carpenter ants, may not require any interior work to be done. For safety reasons, it may be necessary for a customer to vacate the property for a short amount of time if certain products are used on the interior.

Though some professional products require vacate times, the results can be well worth the time. Other products allow for homeowners to be present during the treatment and don’t require any vacate time.  We will determine which products are ideal for your situation, and customize a treatment plan with your needs in mind.

Exterior Treatment

  • An exterior application will also be made to the property. We provide 360-degree coverage of the property to catch any ants trailing into the home or building. A barrier along the foundation is applied to ensure that ants and other insects cannot access the home or building without coming into contact with our materials.

Ants often trail along fence lines, walkways, patios, retaining walls, and driveways. All of these areas are treated in an effort to provide a thorough and all-encompassing solution to the problem. Outbuildings on the property are typically treated at no extra cost as well.

Though our treatments are top-notch, you will not be ant-free overnight! The treatment takes time to work. Generally, you can expect to see ant activity for approximately two weeks following the initial treatment before it begins to subside.

FOLLOW-UP & ONGOING MAINTENANCE

Follow-up treatments and continued preventative maintenance are generally necessary for most species of ants. There are many variables that come into play when choosing a service program, such as the severity of the infestation, conducive conditions and location of the home/building. Even your neighbors play a role!

Once the infestation has fully subsided, we will ensure that the ants are unable to return by maintaining a protective barrier around the perimeter. There will always be ants and insects in the neighborhood, but we’ll make sure they don’t come back to your home.
